Considered one of the founding parents of astronautics and rocket technology, along with other renowned scholars, such as Robert Goddard or Konstantin Țiolkovski, Hermann Oberth was born at Sibiu in the period of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, studying at prestigious European universities, such as München or Heidelberg; however, his thesis was rejected at that time by the latter’s academicians, but it was also presented at Cluj in 1923; in the same year, he also became a professor at Sighișoara, and the medal celebrates 60 years from the presentation of this work.
