Queen Elizabeth accepted to preface this work in the form of a letter to the author, which was published as a preface. The copy is number 109 out of a printing number of 225, and it belonged to Zoe de Linche, as shown by the ex libris on the third page. Zoe de Linche was part of an important family of the Romanian social elite in the second half of the 19th century, having a distant French origin. The founder of this family served at the court of the Phanariot ruler Alexandru Ipsilanti and his successor was made a boyar and Romanized his name into Lenș; later on, in the third generation, his descendants adopted the French form Linche. Their house, sold at some point to the Vernescu family, still exists today on Calea Victoriei in Bucharest.
