Valter Roman (1913-1983) served as a volunteer in the International Communist Brigades during the Spanish Civil War and held several positions in the communist regime, including commander of the Army's Higher Political Directorate from 1947 to 1951. He is the father of politician Petre Roman. Emil Bodnăraş (1904-1976), officer of the Royal Army, deserter and Soviet agent, held positions at the highest level in the communist regime, both during the Gheorghiu-Dej period and during the Ceauşescu period.
