The Hungarian Prince Gabriel Bethlen lead the Principality of Transylvania between 1613 and 1629. Originating from an illustrious Hungarian noble family, he asserted himself through his anti-Habsburg politics alongside the powers that opposed during the Thirty Years' War of the Holy Roman Empire. A good administrator of the Principality, he implemented reforms that consolidated central power and also had positive economic impacts. This current piece, initially created in 1620, is part of the "Historia nostri temporis" ("History of Our Times") work that appeared in 1659 in Germany.
