Petru from Topârcea (also known as Petru Zugrav Topârcea, Petru Zugrav Popovici, Petru Zugrav) was a muralist and icon painter active in the last quarter of the 18th century. Originally from the locality of Topârcea (today part of the city of Ocna Sibiului, Sibiu county), he carried out his activity in localities from the center and south of Transylvania. His style, of folk invoice, is inscribed in the post-brâncovian tradition of the region, with evident influences from the mural art of southern Transylvania. On the gold background is depicted, below the waist, Jesus Christ, the Pantocrator type, dressed in a red chiton, with a golden embroidery at the neckline, over which he draped a blue himation, tied at the edges with a white painted decor. With his right hand he blesses, and with his left he holds the closed Gospel, with golden barks. Around his head, he wears a silver halo. The oval of his face is surrounded by a dark-colored beard and hair, with long locks falling in front and behind.
