The Hungarian Prince Gabriel Bethlen ruled the Principality of Transylvania between 1613 and 1629. Descending from a distinguished Hungarian noble family, he made a stand with his anti-Habsburg policy alongside powers opposing during the Thirty Years' War of the Holy Roman Empire. A good administrator of the Principality, he implemented reforms that strengthened central power but also had positive economic consequences. This piece, first created in 1620, is part of the work "Historia nostri temporis" ("History of our times") published in 1659 in Germany.
