Iosif Iser gradually developed a deep sense of the human being, focusing particularly on the female model. His work is divided into cycles dedicated to odalisques, Spanish women, columbines, ballerinas, or nude studies of his muses' bodies. The synthetic line, through which the painter summarizes forms and volumes and with which he transcribes the entire chromatic palette, reveals to us this time, Iser's protagonist sitting on a chair, posing for the artist in an intimate setting. If in the case of the odalisques we are confronted with statuesque poses which revealed sensuality and the specific costume made up of shalwar and transparent veils; in this work we note the fact that the artist has opted for the rendering of the naked body, subtly covered by a thin scarf. The protagonist appears positioned with one leg over the other, her right arm supported by the armchair and her left arm leaning on the backrest of it. From her left hand flows the veil that instinctively covers the belly area. The atmosphere of familiarity is exuded both by the subject and by the pictorial manner chosen by the artist. The background is reduced to a few broad strokes, randomly placed, in which the painter has approached various shades, which succeed from orange to blue. We'll see that, although his wanderings have long been over, the motives are repeated many times, and certain elements are transferred to other works. In particular, Eastern shades will also emerge in works like this one, appearing under pretexts such as that of the incongruent background. Thus motivated, Iser's choices appear to us as idealizations of his reveries and a pretext for studying the female model once more.
