“For a long time, I believed that the deep honest motivation for my painting was the appearance (and then) tracking of some particular shapes. Let’s call them archetypal shapes: hill, flag, and column. They actually “appeared” and followed me like some sort of obsession, over and over again. I would say that I was interested in shapes displaying a particular axiality, which has led me to the Column, somehow naturally. The type of thing, connected to a clear geometrical shape, suits me, I can express myself...it gives me enough freedom to be able to stray from it.” As the painter himself said, his Column is a recurring theme haunting some of his works by its white pure eternal presence, as a unique logo of him and his artistic intention: that of capturing the spiritual essence from the origins of tradition. Thus, the column rather turns into a concept. The column is the bridge between spaces and levels, while connecting the mundane to the heavenly matters, the material solid things to the spiritual domain and the inherent floating. The tie is on a vertical and on a horizontal, with perspective deepens, in the middle of that crossing being that everlasting column. Equally, when watching the painting in a perspective and on a horizontal, one can see that the central piece, where the “outer” profane ephemeral mundane layer meets the “inner” sacral, spiritual and eternal layer, is the same white solid column. The voluptuousness of the spectral color displays the ascetic character of the white hard stone column, as it would boldly withstand for eternity. The column seems to submerge in the color center, as it would have travelled through time, showing its present day image as coming from ancient times.
