The second half of the fourth decade of the 20th century was one of the most fertile periods in Arnold's career. A passionate traveller, for a few summers between 1936 and 1939, he worked in Greece, England, in Venice, but particularly in France, in Concarneau and Douarnenez, where he painted this watercolour.
