Emperor Hadrian, who reigned between 117 and 138 AD, is considered one of the most important and visionary leaders of the Roman Empire. His reign marked a shift in imperial policy, from military expansion to consolidation, reform and internal stability, which contributed significantly to the sustainable maintenance of the empire. One of Hadrian's most notable accomplishments was the strengthening of the empire's boundaries. Instead of continuing the conquering policy of his predecessors, he preferred to consolidate the existing territories. The most famous symbol of this strategy is Hadrian's Wall, built in Britannia to protect the Roman province from invasions by tribes from the north. This impressive building not only served a military purpose, but also demonstrated the presence and power of Rome at the periphery of the empire. Hadrian was an emperor deeply interested in culture, philosophy, and art, being himself a cultured man. He traveled extensively through the empire, visiting almost all important provinces, not only to inspect them, but also to approach the population and understand local needs. On these trips, he initiated numerous construction projects, renewed cities, supported Greek culture and left behind remarkable monuments, including the Pantheon in Rome, rebuilt under his reign, and his monumental villa in Tivoli. Administratively, Hadrian reorganized the imperial bureaucracy and reformed the army, professionalizing it and improving the living conditions of the soldiers. He paid particular attention to justice and equity, being known for his direct interventions in favor of the oppressed and for his desire to reduce abuses by imperial officials.
