Mihail Sorbul (pseudonym of Mihail Smolski, 1885-1966) was one of the most important playwrights in our literature, bringing a new vision. The tragic comedy "Patima roşie", played at the Small Theatre in his Parisian tour (1923), was a great success, the French critics comparing the character Tofana to Fedra. He was a founding member of the "Romanian Drama Authors' Society" (1923), its president, and head of the Cluj National Theatre (1931).
