Obverse: Bust of Emperor Trajan, laureate, facing right; Legend: IMP CAES NERVA TRAIAN AVG. GERM. Reverse: Victoria, draped, running to the right, with a wreath in her hand; Legend: PM TR P COS IIII PP. Minting area: Roman Empire, predominantly Rome. Circulation area: Roman Empire, from Spain to India and from Germany to Egypt. Possible discovery location: Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, Western Asia, North Africa. Condition: very good. Numismatic issues, as a propaganda medium meant to glorify the emperor, were very numerous. Emperor Trajan issued at the imperial mint in Rome, a large variety of types of silver denarii, in order to show his glory and that of the Roman Empire to the entire world. We observe that an important factor in the good functioning of the imperial propaganda machine, was the use of titles by the emperors. In the case of Trajan, the title Germanicus, abbreviated in the legend as "GER", was meant to affirm the fact that the emperor had been victorious in Germany. As Trajan acquired other victories, whether in Dacia or Persia, new titles were added to the coins that were to be minted.
