Research information
"View of Lake Bohinj" represents the pinnacle of Menci Clement Crnčić's late creation, a period in which the Alpine motifs strongly dominated towards the end of his life. The importance of this theme is vividly confirmed by the artist's last exhibition catalog from 1930, in which out of a total of 35 exhibited works, this landscape motif appears as many as 10 times, including related variants such as Lake Bohinj before the storm and View of Triglav. These late achievements mark a deeply personal and reflective turn away from his well-known Adriatic marine towards exploring the quiet, monumental magnificence of mountain ridges and deep continental waters.
