Marijan Trepše (Zagreb, 1897 – Zagreb, 1964) was a Croatian painter, graphic artist, and scenographer, most significant in the period between the two World Wars. During his education in Prague, he embraced Sezannism, Expressionism, and Cubism. He operates within an informal group, the so-called Prague Four. In his works, he strives towards flatness, cubistically deconstructs space, uses non-mimetic colors, and shades with triangular stains. After studying in Paris, he approaches Neoclassicism and begins to firmly plasticize volumes. He depicted a bull in a lying position with oil on canvas. The animal in the center of the composition is of emphasized volume. The background - a bush of green and brown color and light blue sky, is conveyed with freer brushstrokes and bright and vibrant color.
