This beautiful landscape from the vicinity of the Plitvice Lakes belongs to Iveković's works created in 1902. when, as part of a "painter's expeditions", he stayed at Plitvice Lakes with colleagues Menci Cl. Crnčićic and Ferdo Kovačević. The expedition was organized by the Zagreb Phototypographic Institute "R. Mosinger" at the beginning of 1902. Oton Iveković and the aforementioned colleagues were then invited to perpetuate the waterfalls and key landscapes of this pearl of nature in a kind of painting "venture". The Mosinger Institute's order also contained instructions for the painters to take into account mainly those tones and colors which were most suitable for reproduction, as it was planned to print a map of oleographs. Their joint several-day working visit to Plitvice took place during the spring of 1902, when the lakes were rich in water. According to archival data, each painter painted from 5 to 7 paintings and they all do not only represent waterfalls, but also the lower course of the Korana, meaning the surroundings of the Plitvice Lakes. Oton Iveković in this extraordinary landscape painted exactly that part of nature when the lake water treasure becomes a calm tributary of the Korana River. It was painted with the "recommended" blue-green color scale and as a special feature, it has painted on the right side a piece of one of the numerous mills built along this beautiful river. All the paintings from the expedition were exhibited in the same year at the autumn exhibition of the Society of Arts in the Art Pavilion, which achieved a huge success with the public. BRP
