The sculpture of Dušan Džamonja of a smaller format is a classic form that can be found in his oeuvre. The central, slightly elongated ball is dynamized by iron elements, long nails stretching in several rows, in wavy lines. The dynamic irregularity that these iron protrusions give to this sculpture is resolved with the typical Džamonja sense of rhythm and volume. Despite being a smaller sculpture, we can see all the characteristics of Dušan Džamonja's expression in it (Strumica in Macedonia, 1928 - Zagreb, 2009). First, there is an interest in materials and their specific expression. Džamonja is known in the history of art for rough, unrefined surfaces, created by melting chains or nails. In this case, the iron elements both visually and in their properties (hardness) act as the opposite of the soft wood, shaped into a spherical shape, which also associates softness. Such a base of this sculpture makes it initiated, and the texture created by the nails arranged in curves, somewhat dematerializes its mass (which is paradoxical, because the nails are elements that strengthen, ground, tie). In addition, here we see the artist's already mentioned sense for volume as well as for creating compact, self-contained compositions. All of the above makes this sculpture a small, but indicative example of Džamonja's poetics. FG
