The watercolor of the artist Dechko Uzunov illustrates one of the most interesting and picturesque places in the Republic of Russia. Abbreviated to its full name Kizhi pogost, Kizhi Island is located in Lake Onega in the Republic of Karelia, Russia. The Kizhi pogost is the central part of the Historical-Architectural and Ethnographic Museum Reserve "Kizhi", established in 1966. Kizhi has 3 unusual architectural masterpieces of Russian architecture - 2 picturesque churches from the 18th century with the characteristic Russian bulbous church domes and an 8-wall bell tower (rebuilt in 1863), all made of local wood. Among other buildings and facilities, the fence of the pogosta (of a stone wall at the base, a wall of wooden beams and a wooden roof above it and the adjacent inner belt) are of interest, as well as the cemetery with wooden tombstones. We see all these buildings in the work of the artist, who is known for his frequent travels, which he captures in gentle, ethereal, albeit small-sized watercolors. The year of creation of the work is also of significance, as Uzunov is celebrating his 70th anniversary, on the occasion of which he organized and arranged a retrospective exhibition. It was discovered by the writer and professor, Bogomil Rainov. The drawing is a beautiful memory of an even more beautiful place, sealed by the hand of one of the most famous and influential Bulgarian artists of the 20th century. (S.Y)
