The portrayed Stefan Mitov is the nephew of the artist Boris Mitov (son of the artist Anton Mitov). His archive reveals his active activity as an art critic and his close contacts with leading Bulgarian artists, including Vasil Stoilov, author of the Mitov family tree. The portrait has both artistic and documentary value, associated with one of the significant families in Bulgarian cultural history. (K.S.)
