Croatian painter Ferdo Kovačević (Zagreb, 1870 – Zagreb, 1927) is known for his lyrical river landscapes and willow motifs introduced from 1902. He studied painting in Vienna. He participated in the interior decoration of the Museum of Arts and Crafts building, painted the walls of the current Croatian Institute of History, and made 12 icons for the iconostasis of the Greek Catholic Cathedral in Križevci. He was one of the co-founders of the Society of Croatian Artists (1897.) Exhibits at the Croatian National Art Exhibition and participates in the founding of the Society of Croatian Artists in 1897. He most often puts the landscape of the Sava River on canvas, but he also had a Požega cycle with the Orljava River. He paints in all seasons and various illuminations. The depicted oil on canvas is a realistic landscape with a pronounced atmospheric ambiance. The willow motif is typical of Kovačević's work. From the color palette, ochre, gray-blue, and brown colors prevail, which creates an autumnal or early spring atmosphere.
