Research information
Mihovil Krušlin received his first drawing and painting lessons in Zagreb at the private school of M. Cl. Crnčić. Upon the professor's invitation, he already exhibited two landscapes and two portraits at the "Jubilee Exhibition of the Art Society" in Zagreb in 1905. The following year - as indicated by the signature in the bottom right corner - this self-portrait of the artist was created. Well-prepared for further education, Krušlin passed the entrance exam to the Temporary Higher School for Art and Craft (Art Academy from 1922) in 1907, where he studied painting and graduated in 1911 with extraordinary success. He continued to develop his painting skills in Paris and through numerous study trips, which ultimately resulted in a first-class and very productive opus that ranks him among the best Croatian landscape painters of the first half of the 20th century.
