An excellent draftsman and erotophile, Robert Auer, with his numerous nudes of girls with pretty faces and sensual curves, created a typified prototype of beauties from the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. Offering the public "sweetened" erotica, often cloaked in some ancient myth or even a biblical theme, Auer won numerous admirers during his long creative life. This "Intimacy" is conceived without the "protective" allegorical allusiveness and the naked body of a young girl is bathed in boudoir light, contributing to the sensuality of the scene and making the painter's characteristic idealization of the mise-en-scene less ideal, more real, in a word, more lifelike. The realism manifested by the incarnation and curves of the body, the golden bedsheets and the blue-green veil or cloak that lies casually on the studio floor, is actually the realism of an already exhausted style of Art Nouveau to which the painter remained faithful until the end of his creative life. Although anachronistic to the time in which it was created (a rudiment of Munich Art Nouveau under the aegis of which Auer formed his visual expression), this "Intimacy" must be highly rated for its mastery of execution and achieved aesthetic and even pictorial characteristics.
