In his work, Felix Aftene proposes a neoclassical approach to mythological beings, which he masterfully transposes into the contemporary. He works with ample surfaces, sumptuously organized, in a vibrantly colored palette. His characters are archetypal beings taken from late antiquity. The idealistic manner of representing the human body loses its usual features and gains a clear symbolic charge. The dream-like universe of ancient myths and folk traditions is transposed into the harmonious relationship between the seraphic figures and the incarnations of the animal and vegetable worlds. The mannerism that encourages reverie is enhanced by the metaphysical representation of the specificity of human beings. The symbolic reception of the human being is transposed into a hybrid world dedicated to allegorical characters. The artist adheres to the theories proposed by existentialists and transforms them into art. He transcribes his dreams from memory onto paper and then onto canvas. The recurring blue in his works refers to the Voroneț blue, and also to the geographical location of his childhood. Placed in a timeless topos, the landscapes proposed by the artist fall into this category by illustrating a few natural elements: trees, hills, grass or celestial bodies. Felix Aftene creates portraits of ephemeral travelers, always searching for unique ways of illustrating lines and shapes. His characters are deeply connected with music or theater. The flute's song, recurrent in his works, proposes a magical, transcendental musicality and subtly summarizes aspects of nature and rural life. The ecstatic theatricality of the compositions is transposed into harmonious rhythms of chromatics and compositional organization. Aftene's protagonists, exemplified in ample series, rich in meaning, reveal the complexity of the human being and the most representative archetypal symbols for the artist.
