In 1908, Nicolae Dărăscu settles in a small harbour town on the French Riviera. The sunny atmosphere and richness of nature inspires him to create a series of works in which he captures fishermen's boats, small houses with luxuriant gardens, abundant markets, or endless blue horizons. Dărăscu does not depict the wave and its movement, but the calm sea. The sea also becomes a symbol of travel. In the current work, the artist builds his own shapes very precisely, places calculated brush strokes, and yet, he does not hesitate to use juxtapositions. His canvases are developed within a narrow palette, by only using a few colours. The chromatic related to the harbours, the ships and the buildings is extended in the representation of the sea, where the blue acquires shades of red, yellow or green.
