Starting from 1905, Emilian Lăzărescu settles in Paris, where he would work in the studios of Leon Bonnat and Ernest Hebert. Imaginative and visionary by nature, his creation is divided between idyllic landscapes and works centred on mysterious feminine characters. To his female protagonists, the artist would attach various elements, such as the fan or the cigarette - suggesting modernity, strength and emancipation. Sometimes, his models are captured putting make-up on, or while they lay on the couch. Other times, the femme fatale from the creation of Emilian Lăzărescu focuses her instinctive sight on the observer, as it happens in the current work. For this work, the artist opts for a dark background, meant to contrast the translucent body of the uninhibited feminine character.
