oil on cardboard, 59 x 45 cm, signed lower left, in black, "V Parać"

Vjekoslav Parać (Solin, 1904 – Zagreb, 1986) is a Croatian painter who was educated in Zagreb, Paris, and Rome. The common themes of his paintings and drawings are Dalmatian landscapes, still life, and the everyday life of the little man. Parać began creating with a short phase of constructive realism that transitioned into impressionist painting during his studies in Paris. In his later work, allegorical realism prevailed with mild stylization and a muted color scale. After returning from Paris to his native Dalmatia, Parać brought back his favorite themes to the canvas. In the case of this oil on canvas, it is a Dalmatian landscape. A tall palm tree is placed in the center of the composition. With impressionistic irregular brush strokes and painting with spots of vibrant details, he conjures up a view of the garden.
