Mile Skračić was born in Murter in 1933 and died in Split in 2013. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1978. He taught at the Faculty of Philosophy in Split. In his paintings, he often interpreted the human figure in a surreal way, and later was increasingly inspired by religious themes. Painted in brown tones, which are characteristic for Skračić, this painting can be viewed through the emphasized relationship of the central relief-like elevated figure (probably made out of cut polystyrene mass) and the background which suggests a fragmented, irregular space. The prominent figure only partially evokes a human form, with a broad, slightly diagonally oriented, horizon cutting through its middle. The relief-like details and the aforementioned horizon are varnished with a metallic brown colour, making the painting resemble an alien-like, surreal reliquary. The level of mystery and impenetrability of the theme is further underscored by the unrecognizability of the space behind the figure as well as the open question whether the central figure represents a human form.
