Concentrating his creation on a restricted thematic register, artist Gheorghe Petrașcu creates an art of the concrete, which springs from the reality of his daily environment, from the places he visits or from the contact he has with those around him. He will mostly focus on the domestic, intimate universe, in which we will find interiors, portraits, nudes, still life or flowers. An admirable master of colour, Petrașcu will construct forms directly in colour, the matter acquiring an inherent consistency and a strong tactile aspect under his brush. One of the favourite genres of his mature period, responding to his preference to the frozen reality will be the static nature. Varied and academic as a compositional arrangement, this genre will include in its repertoire leitmotifs close to the painting studio space - books, flowers, jugs, fruit bowls, pots, tins, jars with brushes, etc. - wrapped by the artist in a precious, sculptural colour.
