Representative of the modernist era, in the spirit of which he expressed himself, artist Ciucurencu is the creator of a work inclined towards intensity. Beginning after the First World War and lasting until the end of 1977, the artist's creation will be devoted to a luminous vision, alongside synthesis, analysis and construction. From the very first exhibitions, the artist will focus on the whole, as well as on the atmosphere that surrounds the motif. After his contact with Paris, where he stayed for two years (1931-1933), some innovations appeared in his work. His technique will aim for pictorial effects, based on a dynamic handling of tones, laid in thin layers, using transparent joints, along with a somewhat more prominent investment of colour. In addition to still life, compositions of odalisques, women with guitars and ballerinas - subjects reminiscent of the Paris of his formative years - make an appearance. (G.M.)
