Research information
The works was part of the set of works completed by Ion Jalea during the mid '20s on simple folk and work activities. These small statuettes are surprising in both their expressive quality of the action, of intensity and the dynamic of characters the sculptor so thoroughly approaches: "The ploughman", "The sowers", "Carrying the bags", "The buffalo keeper", as well as "The peasant girl and the pumpkin".
