The model of the shirt is as per the national team's gear from 1984-1986, with the national emblem sewn on it. This period represents Gheorge Hagi's transfer from Farul Constanța to Steaua București, the fresh European champion back then. Football, and sports in general, represent a method of cultural diplomacy, and for the period 1984-1986, Romania had become a competitor as important as countries such as France, Spain, or Italy. This will be evidenced by its participation in the 1990 and 1994 World Championships.
