Nicknamed "The Golden Boy of Boxing" after winning the gold medal at the 1992 Olympic Games, Oscar de la Hoya has 11 world titles in 6 different categories. In 2002, the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles granted him Mexican citizenship, in recognition of his cultural heritage. Along with his sports achievements, Oscar de la Hoya is also known for his philanthropic activities, opening an oncology center in 2000 in memory of his mother.
