During the trip to Transylvania in the spring of 1919, King Ferdinand and Queen Marie met with the Greek Catholic bishop of Cluj-Gherla Iuliu Hossu who had played a major role in achieving the Union of Transylvania with Romania. The bishop was elevated to the rank of Cardinal in 1969, after a long period of hard detention in the prisons of the communist regime. In 2019 Cardinal Hossu was beatified by Pope Francis. The photograph contains on the reverse the holographic dedication signed by the bishop.
