In 1850, Constantin David Rosenthal had painted "Revolutionary Romania", having Maria Rosetti as an authentic revolutionary muse. Englishwoman Mary Grant married C. A. Rosetti, sharing his revolutionary beliefs. After the quelling of the revolution of 1848, they were exiled in France. After returning to the country, she stood out as the first female journalist in Romania.
