The globe is part of the work "The New Atlas" created by the French geographer, publisher, engraver and architect George Louis Le Rouge (c. 1707-c. 1790). Born in Hanover into a Protestant family that had fled because of religious persecution, he became a true Enlightenment spirit, with a complex activity. The piece is splendidly decorated, the corners of the plate being decorated with four exotic figures. Copper engraving hand colored after printing.
