The work represents the first synthesis regarding the life and work of Nicolae Grigorescu published by his good friend, Alexandru Vlahuță. The writer was the one who defined the artist as the "national painter", a characterization that has remained in posterity. The volume includes 20 plates made by photogravure, 232 phototypes on copper and 17 facsimiles on zinc printed from the original photographs taken by the engineer and photographer Stelian Petrescu. The cover of the copy has been completely redone. On the main cover, in the top left corner, there is a stamped ownership ex-libris.
