At the initiative of the Sibian publisher and cultural man Corneliu Diaconovich, the Romanian Encyclopedia appeared in Sibiu under the auspices and with the financial support of the Association for Romanian Literature and the Culture of the Romanian People, the first work of this kind printed in Romanian. Both Romanian intellectuals from the Austro-Hungarian Empire and some from Romania contributed to its creation. The first volume has an ex-libris of the doctor Aurel Voina and the third volume has an ex-libris Constantin Zitti. All copies retain the original publisher's binding which has suffered the effects of time.
