The German cartographer Sebastian Münster (1488-1552), a professor at the University of Basel, published the work that made him famous, "Cosmography", in German in 1544. The work has known 24 editions in several languages and was distributed throughout Europe. The example here is part of an edition published in 1574. Hand-colored copper engraving after printing.
