The artwork was part of the solo exhibition "Between Worlds", Bucharest, 2019.

Eugen Bratfanof has often been considered by critics as a "classic lost among modernists", who however adopts in his work a contemporary trend that he successfully transposes to the teachings received from great masters. The stake of surrealism is undeniably present in all his works and follows his path throughout his entire spread. Idealistic painting and mystical attitudes are revealed in themes such as the couple, children, music, family or faith. In portraits, we particularly notice the artist's interest in oversized heads, which far exceed the precepts imposed by the body and which avoid the usual anatomical data. Large eyes and dilated pupils are a constant in his portraits and character compositions. His works will function as portraits of becoming, in which we trace human typology from tender infancy, to seductive youth and until old age that brings much heavier states. In this work, we are dealing with the image of the primordial couple, a recurring motif that reiterates embodiments of affection. Deformation of elements taken from immediate reality and fluidization of volumes will become characteristics of Eugen Bratfanof's style, which brings comments on the dependence of the masculine on the feminine through long-studied pictorial allegories.
