Ivan Lacković Croata (Batinske, 1932 - Zagreb, 2004) was a representative of Croatian naive painting, a collector and bibliographer. After finishing primary school, he worked as a farmer, forestry worker, and later as a postman and postal official. Even as a child, he painted his first pictures which reflected country life. At the age of 30, he met Krsto Hegedušić in Zagreb, worked occasionally in his master's workshop and soon began to exhibit his own artistic works. After nearly two decades of work as a self-taught painter, he left his job at the Zagreb post office and began to professionally engage in painting. He has exhibited all over the world at solo and group exhibitions. As a volunteer, he defended the Croatian state during the Homeland War and also expressed his patriotism with the nickname Croata. During the war, his works recorded what he saw - the destruction and suffering of the little man. As a typical Croatian naive artist, he painted landscapes, figural compositions, still lifes with oil on glass. The oil on glass work "Winter Landscape" is a recognizable example of his creations. The painting depicts a poetic winter scene. Ivan Lacković Croata romanticized the usual and everyday life in his paintings with precise drawing. The painting shows a winter landscape with an emphasis on bare tree branches, precisely painted with thin, branched lines, which is characteristic of Lacković's style. In the distance, the shape of a village can be seen, represented by houses covered with snow, while the winter sun sets on the horizon, adding a warm, orangish tone to the cold, grayish palette. The sky is cloudy and gloomy, creating a melancholic, and almost contemplative atmosphere. The painting is signed in the bottom right corner in black paint.
