The work represents the first modern dictionary of the Romanian language, created under the aegis of the Romanian Academy by the two pioneers of Romanian linguistics, August Treboniu Laurian and Ion C. Massim. The covers are made of pergamonoid and the spine is made of leather. The period binding shows signs of age.
