Sylvester Joseph Freiherr (1735-1814) followed an exceptional military career that led him to the rank of general in the Austrian army. Of German nobility origin, he participated as the commanding officer of the imperial troops during the anti-Ottoman campaigns in Hungary, Transylvania, and the Balkans. Passionate about history and archaeology, he researched the places through which the military expeditions he took part in carried him and published the results of these studies in several appreciated specialty works. His military training was doubled by a humanist one, typical for the German Enlightenment period. This work was published in Vienna in an elegant edition accompanied by four large-scale engravings made on copper plates and manually colored after printing. Also, numerous archaeological pieces, especially Roman, are reproduced in the form of small engravings printed in the same technique. The church from Densuș is analyzed, with the appropriate illustrations, on several pages. The covers are made of cardboard covered in leather. The copy is preserved in a very good state of conservation.
