During his high school years, Ștefan Câlția studied in Timișoara under the guidance of Julius Podlipny, a fact which will remain imprinted in the artist's creative imagination and which could be observed in both his graphic and pictorial works. In painting, he takes on the characteristics of fantastic realism, which he also extends in his graphic works, through the nature of the subjects he approaches. Artist of the flight and the sky, Ștefan Câlția will propose the celestial motif of soaring and floating and the aquatic animal, thus responsible for the genesis of the winged fish. He will combine with obvious mastery the terrestrial, celestial or aquatic planes and will create a world populated by fabulous or fantastic beings, like the peacock, the unicorn or the fish with wings. He proposes a unique journey through the meticulously studied musicality of the artist who matches the graphic signs with great care. Flying and soaring, overcoming the comfort zone and entering an eminently different universe, which depicts a new ordering of the primordial meanings of already existing elements, become favourite themes in the creation of the artist who willingly assumes their deepening. The fish with wings will represent another metaphor in the universe of Câlția, a fantastic one, ruled by the infinite imagination of the artist.
