Tichetele de pâine au fost introduse de statul socialist român pentru a putea monitoriza consumul de pâine şi pentru a-l putea raţionaliza. Fiecare membru al unei familii avea dreptul la o jumătate de pâine pe zi. Fiecare zi era notată de către vânzător, asigurându-se astfel că nu se întrecea raţia.
