An artist of the interwar generation, active in Romanian modernist circles, a colleague of the generation of Iorgulescu Yor, Ionescu Sin, Constantin Baraschi, Sabin Popp, Tache Soroceanu or Alexandru Phoebus, Papatriandafil had, curiously, a very short career. It is not only the year of his death that indicates this, but especially the fact that his activity ceased during the Second World War (1941). In the approximately 15 years of career (he doubts at the Official Salon in 1924), the artist succeeds to impose himself in the creation of the modern spirit that was gradually taking over Romanian painting, being an active member of the "Our Group" society. The painter's value was recognized from his very first exhibition participations, being awarded one prize after another in the Official Salons between 1926 and 1928, when he established himself as one of the most skilful portrait and landscape painters of his generation. Besides, in the case of the Salon of 1928, Papatrandafil wins the travel abroad scholarship of 50.000 lei, scholarship which will help him reach Paris in 1929. This first creation period from Papatriandafil's career accompanied by two other participations in important exhibitions of 1928, both within the Romanian Art Society and within the First Salon of Fine Arts within the Semicentenary of Dobrogea.
