Tia Peltz asserts herself in the Romanian culture in a triple posture: graphic artist, writer and painter. She was particularly noticed for her drawings with a ludic theme and debuted in 1953, at the Annual Graphic Exhibition. She is the daughter of the journalist Isac Peltz for whom she created more book illustrations: "Max și Lumea lui" ("Max and his World") (1957), "Foc în Hanul cu tei" ("Fire in the Linden Inn") (1974), "Nopțile domnișoarei Mili" ("The Nights of Lady Mili") (1976) or "Calea Văcărești" ("Văcărești Road") (1989). The merits of her graphic art were rewarded with the "Prize for Book Illustration and Graphics" of the Salon for Books and Cultural Publications in 1995 and the "Prize for Book Illustration" in Cluj-Napoca in 1997. She studied painting under the guidance of Max Hermann Maxy and participated in numerous exhibitions, in the country and also abroad. She was founding member of the Romanian Plastic Artists' Union, member of Rome's Academy of Fine Arts and member of ”San Sal Maggiore” from Parma. In painting, she asserts herself in the posture of a fine observer of the world and captured urban and rural landscapes, and also the special notes of the human being. She proposed her own typologies and painted especially the people of the picturesque space. She captured the effervescent moments of social life and portrayed joy with broad smiles on the faces of her models. She borrowed from the playful vein of her graphics and painting and distinguished herself as a master of line, with which she enhanced the expressions of her characters. By her pictorial technique she assimilated under the guidance of Maxy, the artist succeeds to take drawing to another level, going beyond the minimalist sphere of her graphic. The present work records Tia Peltz's exceptional qualities in her approach to the oil technique and also reveals the artist's colourist skills.
