Chiar dacă a avut o carieră îndelungată, anii comunismului nu au fost cei mai benefici în moștenirea ce ne-a fost lăsată de pictorul Adam Bălțatu. Totuși, calitatea indiscutabilă a creației sale îl recomandă și îi certifică prezența în rândul celor mai importanți artiști autohtoni, în special în ceea ce privește postimpresionismul românesc. Peisagist înfocat, Bălțatu a creat în cea mai mare parte a carierei într-un regim cromatic specific, fiindu-i deseori alipite etichete poetice datorită calității lirice a paletei sale.
