A studiat la Academia de Arte Frumoase din Budapesta între 1918 şi 1920, unde a fost studentul lui Edvi Illés Aladár şi al lui Olgyai Viktor. Operele sale timpurii (de la începutul anilor 1920 până la mijlocul anilor 1940) poartă aceleaşi caracteristici stilistice ca şi operele contemporanilor săi - Vilmos Aba-Novák, cu care a fost bun prieten, Erzsébet Korb, Károly Patkó sau István Szőnyi.
