Lucrarea a fost realizată cu scopul de a decora casa din Cagnes și a fost turnată inițial în 1907. Stilul este tipic lui Renoir, fiind conform cu teoriile sale despre neregularitate. Claude "Coco" Renoir, cel mai mic fiu al artistului, se năștea în 1901, și avea să fie portretizat în două instanțe sculpturale, medalionul de față și în bust.
