Beneficiar a două burse de sculptură (bursa Storck și bursa Paciurea), Iancuț debuta la absolvirea Institutului de arte plastice Nicoale Grigorescu, în 1974, cu o expoziția la galeria Kalinderu. Activitatea de la celebra tabără de sculptură de la Măgura avea să îl plaseze în rândul celor mai importanți sculptori contemporani, urmând o carieră elogiată și premiată: Marele premiu al simpozionului de la Burgas, 1979; Premiul pentru sculptură la Bienala de plastică mică de la Budapesta, 1981; Medalia de aur "Dantesca" Ravena, 1989; premiul pentru sculptură ambientală, Sibiu, 1993.
