bronz, 34 x 14 x 17 cm, 14x34 adâncime: 17, semnat, datat, specificată turnătoria și atelierul, în spate, HBitterlich, 1908, ÖSTERREICHISCHE GESELLSCHAFT ZUR FÖRDERUNG DER MEDAILLEN-KUNST UND KLEINPLASTIK IN WIEN, 68; WMF, GEISLINGEN-SF.

Fiu al sculptorului şi pictorului de scene istorice Eduard Bitterlich, Hans Bitterlich se naşte la Viena în anul 1860. Studiază sculptura cu Edmund Hellmer şi Kaspar Zumbusch, iar din 1901 până în anul 1931 este profesor la prestigioasa Academie de Arte din Viena. Cele mai cunoscute realizări ale artistului sunt Monumentul Gutenberg (1900) şi monumentul Împărătesei Elisabeta din localitatea Volksgarten, realizat între anii 1904 – 1907, alături de arhitectul Friedrich Ohmann. Aprecierea contemporanilor şi a criticii vine în anul 1943 când i se decernează Medalia Goethe pentru Arte şi Ştiinţe.
